     On November 9, 2008 at approximately 1:00 a.m. Marvin Atwood will leave
Surfers' Point Seaside Park at the Pacific Ocean in Ventura, CA in an attempt to set a
new Ultramarathon Cycling Association world record for west to east crossing of
California.  This non-stop attempt will terminate at the Colorado River in Parker, AZ,
a total of 323 miles.
    Marvin is making this record attempt as a community member of Team Semper Fi
in support of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a group dedicated to providing
assistance to Marines who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan and in providing
travel and other assistance to their families.
