At approximately 1:00 a.m. on November 9, 2008 Marvin
Atwood, supported by a 4-person crew in two vehicles and a
Certified Official from the Ultramarathon Cycling Association
will depart Surfers' Seaside Park in Ventura, CA in an attempt to
establish a new World Record for west to east crossing of
California.  After leaving the Pacific Ocean the route will travel
east through Santa Clarita, Palmdale, Victorville, Yucca Valley,
Twentynine Palms before finishing at the California-Arizona
Border halfway across the Colorado River in Parker, AZ, a total of
322 miles.  The course will include a climb over the California

National Park and the Sonoran Desert.  The attempt will be made
non-stop with the support crew handing off fluids and nutrition.
Record attempts of this type are absolutely impossible without the
support of a dedicated crew.  The crew consists of Larry Burns,
Pamela Atwood, Brad Patay and Josh Garling.  Bill Peschka will
be serving as the Certified Official from the Ultramarathon
Cycling Association.
